Why kitchens book through us

A grease-laden extract system is the most common cause of serious commercial kitchen fires, and most policies now require it to be cleaned to a recognised standard with records to prove it. After a fire the loss adjuster asks for those records first. Booking through Extract Cleaning UK means one point of contact, a contractor who has been vetted for insurance, method and paperwork, and a report you can put in front of anyone who asks.

Vetted, insured contractors

We check insurance, TR19 method, sample reports and references before a contractor joins the network, and we keep checking the paperwork on every job.

Certificate and photos, every time

Grease-depth readings, before-and-after photographs, any sections that could not be accessed and why, and the date the next clean is due.

Priced for your kitchen

A single-canopy café and a hotel with three kitchens are different jobs. Quotes reflect the system, the access and how hard the kitchen works — see our cost guide.

Nationwide, locally delivered

England and Scotland through the network; Wales through our local sites in Cardiff, Swansea and Pembrokeshire.

TR19 explained, plainly

The guides insurers, EHOs and kitchen managers actually need — what the certificate must contain, how often you have to clean, what it costs, and where you stand legally.

TR19 Certificate

What the certificate is, what a compliant one contains, who asks to see it and how long it remains valid.

TR19 Certificate Cost

What a TR19 certificate costs, what is included in the price and when an inspection-only report is enough.

TR19 Regulations

TR19 is guidance rather than statute, yet insurers, EHOs and fire assessors treat it as the rule. Here is why.

What Is TR19 Grease?

The BESA specification for kitchen extract fire safety: where it came from, what it covers and what it asks of you.

TR19 vs NAAD21

Two industry standards for kitchen extract cleanliness, who publishes them, where they overlap and which one to ask for.

Frequently asked questions

How does arranging a kitchen extract clean through Extract Cleaning UK work?

You tell us where the kitchen is, what it cooks and for roughly how many hours a day. We match the enquiry to a vetted contractor who covers your postcode and knows your type of premises, and they come back with a quote, usually within one working day. If you accept, the contractor books the visit, cleans to TR19 Grease and sends the certificate and photo report. We remind you before the next clean is due, and the arranging costs you nothing.

How much does a kitchen extract clean cost?

It depends on the size of the system, the length and route of the ductwork, how easy the fan is to reach and how long since the last clean. Typical figures are £300 to £600 for a small single-canopy kitchen, £500 to £900 for a medium restaurant or pub with a duct run, and £900 to £2,000 or more for a hotel, care home or multi-canopy site. An inspection-only report is typically £150 to £350. The cost guide explains the factors in detail.

Who actually carries out the cleaning?

An independent specialist contractor from our vetted network, not Extract Cleaning UK. We check each company's registrations, insurance and sample reports before it joins, and we confirm it measures grease deposits, fits access panels and photographs the whole system. Each contractor in the network is BESA-qualified, CHAS-accredited and fully insured, and hands over the TR19 certificate and before/after photo report when the job is finished. You contract with the contractor for the work, and we make sure the report arrives.

Will I get a TR19 certificate?

Yes, provided the system has been cleaned in full and verified by measurement. The contractor issues a certificate and a post-clean report showing grease-depth readings for each section before and after cleaning, photographs at every access point, any sections that could not be reached with the reason, and the date the next clean falls due. The TR19 certificate guide describes what a compliant document contains and who will ask to see it.

How often does my extract system need cleaning?

TR19 Grease sets the interval by hours of cooking a day. Heavy use, twelve to sixteen hours, needs a clean every three months; moderate use, six to twelve hours, every six months; light use, two to six hours, every twelve months. Solid-fuel and wok cooking can justify a shorter interval, and some insurers set their own. If you tell us your hours and cooking type we will suggest the band, and the frequency guide covers the borderline cases.
